One hand light crossbow 5e9/16/2023 ![]() ![]() I haven’t looked it up, so if anyone knows better please correct me, but it makes sense to me that when you hold a weapon with that shape, you use both hands, even if it’s small and the trigger mechanism is convenient enough. I’ve never seen a historical depiction or description of anyone shooting a crossbow with one hand. Hand crossbows in 3rd Edition (which gave us exotic weapon rules) and 5e are one-handed weapons. Screws are easy to turn, I think, but take forever. More effort usually corresponds to more time needed, too. It may require little strength and effort, or quite a lot. How easy they are to load varies wildly, depending on how small and light they are but also on the existence of loading mechanisms (pulleys, cranequins, screws, stirrups etc), and how light they are.
