They also said they barely got to touch their pieces, and that it was practically made for them by their wheel-throwing instructor. The experience wasn’t terrible, we enjoyed some laughs and bonding with other guests who shared similar experiences. I spent $180 for two people, and it was not worth my time or money. This part of the class was okay, and majority of the class is doing this. Might as well buy play doh from the dollar store and put it in the oven. The stencils they had for our creations were crappy in my opinion. We got to mold and shape the clay to our liking. She ended up making our piece for us, despite telling her multiple times we want our pieces to look messed up with crazy grooves (it’s art! Art is never perfect and it’s a physical reminder that pottery is a process).įor the second half of the class, we made hand held pieces. If this is their ideology and message, why was my instructor annoyed at me for not getting her technique down? I felt belittled the entire time, I even have it on video! The language barrier made it difficult to communicate. The instructor seemed to get annoyed when we didn’t understand her technique (like seriously?!? We’re beginners!) What is quite ironic is that their Instagram page posts positive quotes such as “every failure is an opportunity for growth”. I was expected a thorough explanation of wheel throwing, instead, spent maybe 20-30 minutes on a piece that we didn’t get to make. There were two of us in our party, and it feels that we barely had time at the wheel. The class is extremely hands-on (since the pottery instructors basically make your item for you) and rushed. ![]() After my deposit, I had to pay the lady at the front, I’m assuming is the owner, through Zelle. I would prefer to communicate through email, or at least a website. ![]() First sign that it lacks professionalism. When you sign up for a class, all communication is mediated via text message. Unfortunately, it was not what I expected. I was extremely excited to take this class, and was looking forward to it for weeks. I like La Colombe coffee shop across the street, heading uptown. BTW : No refreshments sold or allowed there and bathrooms are limited. □□ ask them for directions, there is no backtracking allowed once you’re inside. Read the fine print for exhibition entrance, go 2 blocks further/28th street and 11th Avenue the entrance is nondescript. □ The entrance to the Emporium gift shop is where the internet tries to send you. Don’t miss it if you have the money for $50 admission. The palladium room and the home movies are spectacular. Jean Michel was ahead of his time and perhaps too beautiful to make it when fame happened suddenly. I’m a retired art professor and a fan of 40 years.
